Australian Recognition for Tasmanian Grower Nathan Richardson

Agrotop congratulates Nathan Richardson and his family on Brookfield Farming’s outstanding result in the Aviagen Australia and New Zealand Broiler Club Awards.

Brookfield Farming, a contract grower for Nichols Poultry at Thirlstane in north-west Tasmania, received the Gold Award in Australia’s commercial broiler category. The farm achieved an EPEF score of 472—the highest result in its category.
This was not an award based on a single exceptional flock. Qualification was based on verified production data and a rolling average across three consecutive flocks. The minimum entry level for the Australian commercial category was 440, making Brookfield’s score of 472 particularly significant.

EPEF, or European Production Efficiency Factor, is a widely used measure combining several important aspects of broiler performance, including growth rate, feed conversion, livability and age at processing. A high score therefore reflects consistently strong overall flock performance rather than success in just one area.

Nathan and his wife Janine operate a long-established, mixed family farm that also produces potatoes, cereals and livestock. The Richardson family has farmed in the area for more than a century, while Nathan and Janine have been growing broilers for approximately 16 years.
Nathan compared achieving the best broiler results to tuning a Formula One car: every detail matters. This is an important point. Results at this level depend on the complete growing environment—good animal husbandry, careful daily management, flock health, nutrition, water quality, equipment and housing—all working together.
